An English teacher at our school led PD on Monday and taught us a great game called Hot Seat. Students split into two teams. Each team sends a person up to the front of the room. The people in the front sit in chairs facing the class. I write a vocabulary word on the board behind them (like cirrus cloud). The people who can see the word yell clues to their team’s representative in the “hot seat.” The first person in a chair to correctly say the vocabulary word wins a point for the team.
This game worked so well for my 9th graders. We used it to start reviewing for their final, which is coming up in less than 2 weeks. The kids went absolutely nuts with the game. The were screaming and jumping up and down and doing their best to help each other. Two other teachers stopped by to see what all the commotion was and decided to try it in their classes. The vice pricipal came by and told me I did a great job today. Made me happy.
